Dear Sir,
Referring to Your mail of April 8th, please see the enclosed mail. So far, to simplify the control and the regulations the limitation of 25 kg will be of fish products and not just of cod products. But, the regulation is not work out and entered into force yet.
Yours Sincerely

Subject: 25 kg fish quota for tourists
Dear Sir
TAs to Your e-mail of April 5th, the regulation You refer to, is not yet worked out. The Norwegian fishery authorities have to focus on the bad situation of the fish resources especially of cod in the costal areas. Reports of the bad situation of these resources are worked out lately. The possibility of fishing in the fiords and in the coastal areas is important to ordinary Norwegians and has tradisionally been regarded as a positive part of the lifestyle in Norway. Nevertheless, now the resource situation is so serious that we all have to limit our freedom. We cannot any longer say that our way of fishing do not matter. We all have to contribute to saving the resources.
This is the background why as well profesional fishermen, ordinary Norwegians as tourists have to conduct fishery also in the coastal areas in a more careful and more regulated (and consious) way. Our main and common goal is to preserve the resources and secure the posibilities for fishing in the future. Certainly, the supervision and control will mainly be focused on the professionals as the control of private fishermen will be difficult and less efficient.. But the authorities have to co-poperate with all fishermen - professionals as well as private - to establish a common understanding that we all have to contribute, that we all have to have an ethic and responible attitude to the resource question. As You Germans say: "Ordnung muss sein."
The regulation of the tourist quota of 25 kg fishery products is supposed to enter into force some time in early May 2004. Beeing at the coast this time of the year might be nice also when You not are fishing. I hope You and Your fellow visitors will
have a pleasant stay.
Yours sincerely
