To introduce myself: I was born in Norway, Oslo to be more specific. Now I'm on the east coast of USA and love fishing. I'm fulltime Network Admin and Part time Kayak fishing guide. I run a forum for nuts like me who love to chase "Striped Bass" from the kayak.

I found this forum while searching for "ABU Ambassadeur UC 6500 C", I'm in dear need of parts. So if anyone know an area / web site / online store where I can get parts for this reel or if you know where they sell an new or used reel like this I would appreciate the info.

Nils

Welcome!

I'll translate for those, who don't understand english!

Hei Nils,

Welcome to our forum. Without having too much knowledge of Ambassadeurs, if this is an older reel i do have contacts both in Norway and Sweden who service both new and older Ambassadeurs.
I'd rather see you contact them personally so give me a word if this is an older reel.

Leser og skriver du norsk, forresten?

Thank you for the warm welcome. I knew anglers where alike all over the world :)

Ja, jeg snakker Norsk, jeg leser bedre enn jeg skriver. Her er det det ikke mye anledning til a snakke norsk.

The ultracast reel was made around 1997 to 1999 and I think they discontinued it because it was not a hit with freshwater fishermen. ABU caters a lot to the pike fishers :D With the oversize bearings in the spool it's very hard to cast small light lures, but for us fishing the salt it's the perfect setup.

The next best reel for my fishing style is the Black Max (ABU) and I broke that one also so I'm parts hunting this planet.

"Danke werden alle und ich an meinem Deutsch arbeiten" or "Danke sehr viel und werde ich an meinem Deutsch arbeiten" (Thanks to the English German translator)

Welcome Nils,
I for myself as a coldwater sea-angler am very pleased to meet a kayak fishing gude in naffen.de. I found a few very interisting pages in the web about fishing with kayaks especially with fishing with sit on top kayaks in the US. Without having any expirience in kayaking i like to invite you as a participipant in this forum to discuss with us the fishing from a kayak in shore waters, especially cold water fishing. I took a look in the internet on the types of the sit on top kayaks available for shore fishing. This is an unexpected opprtunity for sea-angling in Eropean "Cold" waters.
Welcome
Thomas

@Nils,
Ambassadeur UC sounds like one of this casting reels without magnetic control... popular in the UK with a white finish. This Series is nearby "unknown" in Germany.

Ok, Nils.
Since you do read and write Norwegian, i advise you to check out the Norwegian forum : http://www.fiskersiden.no
There you'll find a theme called "Verkstedet" under "Diverse". One of the participants there, "Laksefiskeren" is the National capacity on Ambassadeurs and a serviceman as well. He might be able to help you onwards.

Hardi, anytime you like, come see me at my forum (homepage in profile) and if you or anyone here is vacationing in the New England area, shout and we'll go fishing. I have access to boats, shore and kayaks :)

Yes, the UC is without the magnet, but it's a sweet reel for saltwater fishing with large plugs up to 2' (61 cm) long with the average plug 9" (22 cm) long.

redneck, thank you for the link, I have to say it's easier to speak english on the german forum than "norsk" on the norwegian forum.

Nils

I think you did quite fine on the norwegian forum....(jada, jeg er norsk sjøl):}

I see you are from Arendal, I used to love fishing around there. Used to be some nice crabbing south of Reversand (I think that is the name) A couple of Islands out there and some nice drops with good fishing... We used to spend summers in Lillesand, fishing and crabbing... good old times :)

We are fishing tomorrow night, hunting for stripers like this one:

hello nils,

welcome from tromsø as well!

well I'm living in norway, but I'm german actually. you see, it's an international place here...:)

It's nice to know someone over the ocean.

Hi Alexander,

nice to meet you. I have found fishing here in the states to be very different from growing up in Norway. We used to fish to fill the freezer for the winter. Here it's all about the sport, there are some fish that you fish for food and to fill the freezer but striper hunting is looking for the record :)

Tromsø, that's way opp there if I remember right... just south of Hammerfest?

Hope fishing is still good up North, I remember some nice lakse fisking in private streams / rivers :)

Nils

yes that's true, tromsø is in the far north. It's still good fishing up here, but I haven't been salmon fishing yet. I was just fishing trout and - oh what is it in english? - røye på norsk.

and of course a lot of sea fishing, always hoping to get that big halibut hooked. but I never hat that luck yet. but: it will come some day, and you know how it is, it's always happening when you expect it least.

and sometimes it's a little difficult here to get the right equipment. maybe you could send me something from the states...;), but that's not so important now.

I'm a little to far south for arctic char / røye. There are good røye fishing about 10 to 12 hours of driving north of here, on the Canadian border and further north into Canada.

A few of the species in the river next to where I live:
Atlantic Salmon
Rainbow
Alewife
American Shad
Gizzard Shad
Sea Lamprey (Most of the time it's attached to the side of a catfish :) )
Blueback Herring
Shortnose sturgeon (Acipenser brevirostrum)
Atlantic sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrhyncus)
Striped Bass
Burbot or Ling, Lota lota Linnaeus (freshwater cod fish or cusk)
Amia calva, Linnaeus (BOWFIN OR DOG FISH)

If you are looking for a ABU Ambassador 5000 Black-Max, there is one on Ebay (Klick here!)

O, and before I forget, welcome to this forum.

Greetings from Holland,

Patrick

Vmax, I have an Abu BM 6600 CLW I found the parts after I got the partnumbers. I think the 5000 BM is just a little to small for my fishing.

I have a ebay search warning anytome a BM comes up for sale I'm in the bidding pool. Problem is a lot of times they go for more than they are worth :)

Thanks for the welcome

Nils

Hi NilsC

greetings from here and welcome in this forum.

i`ve reed a lot about fishing for stripers in magazines like `Florida Sportsman` and `Saltwater Sportsman` whitch i took from my fishingtrips from USA.

i like any american style fishing, specialy lighttackle fishing 8 lbs test and 7 ft m/h action rod ( St. Croix) from a boat or wading in shollow warm waters.

i never cought a striper but i cought some of their little brothers the Europan Sea Bass, one 6.5 kg and an otherone 5.5 kg, olso two nice fishes for this species...but long time ago.

i think you bring me on the way to try your style of fishing, too.

let`s see what the time brings....
